They say dream big. This is exactly what happens to the Flintridge Prep girls cross country team.

Two weeks ago, "coach Mike Roffina his underclassmen big dreams, because that was the only way the rebels would go on season.

"I have never, ever would have expected two weeks ago," said Roffina.

"I never expected that our season will be extended."

Actually did Flintridge Prep big dreams. The rebels scored a surprising sixth in last Saturday CIF southern section Division 5 finals.

The only goal immediately put the five sophomores and two newcomers in a frenzy. Roffina had to take cover flit, and it was not from the rain drops. It was the realization that the rebels have big dreams and would compete with us, along with the Flintridge Prep boys team on Saturday at the CIF State Championships in Fresno Woodward Park The rebels earned the last place in the Division IV race.

"I think she heard whispers around the school," said Roffina the late season success. "They began to listen. This group has no pressure. I do not think that the new hires know the extent of what has been done."

Sophomore Kaitlyn Kelleher finished 18th and Freshman Sarah Yoho 19th in the CIF-SS Finals. Freshmen Kate Evans, Audrey Levy and Galey Caverly took the rebels next places. Freshman Sophomore Marisa Wang and Nikhita Poole also competition.

The rebels are not the only team to dream big. The Arcadia boys, fresh from their

first CIF-SS Division 1 title aim at first state crown. Senior Apaches Ammar Moussa seeks to repeat as state champion, won on the same hill after 5-kilometer course last year. South Pasadena Senior Sam Pons hopes for his first state Division III title after taking the CIF-SS version last week to win for the second consecutive year.

Arcadia junior Catrina McAlister, La Salle sophomore Daniel De La Torre, Pasadena Poly sophomore Michael Caughron, Kyle Maranatha Bueckert, Glendora Senior sophomore Anthony Castro, Bonita sophomore Marissa Scott, second album, La Mirada and Whittier Christian Junior Taylor Jones Kellian Hunt are also among the favorites to win individual crowns.

Each finished no worse than eighth in the CIF-SS Finals.

Bosco Tech will take its fight against CIF-SS enemy Harvard-Westlake in the state after completion of second on the Wolverines in the CIF-SS Division 4 final. Flintridge Sacred Heart, Mayfield, Ayala and the Flintridge Prep boys all advanced as teams to meet with many that legitimate shots at a title.

Among the favorites are hard to Arcadia. The Apaches, the team set the course record at the Clovis Invitational in early March. They knew that without an injured No. 3, senior Eric Garibay, who is back and stronger than ever.

"We can go even faster," said Arcadia coach James O'Brien. "After Eric back makes a big difference."

Moussa is expected to be appealed to King's Lane Werley, which remained with him for much of the CIF-SS Finals, and Moussa's teammate, junior Sergio Gonzalez.

Both the Apache and Moussa are unbeaten this season. Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills, El Toro will probably give the Apaches, their biggest challenge, just as in the CIF-SS Finals.

O'Brien expects a tactical race.

"It plays right in our hands," he said. "We start slow and hunt people down. I think we can overcome this challenge without any problems."

The Apaches placed five runners in the top 17 at the CIF-SS Finals, including junior and senior Ryan Vargas Allen Leung, who fell to start the race.

Pons' chief challenge in Division III, Piner Luis Luna and Enterprise Domenic D'Acquisto. After a subpar race itself approved in the Clovis Invitational, his first race back after suffering a stress fracture was Pons' only loss of Division 2 Elias Gedyon of Loyola in the Mt SAC Invitational. Gedyon is expected to win his third State title. Glendora Castro finished six seconds behind him in the CIF-SS Finals.

Bosco Tech finished 27 points behind league champion Harvard-Westlake mission in the 4th Division The team's main competitors are also of the Mission of the League, Notre Dame and Crespi. Tigers junior JJ Dominguez was on his way into the mix for the individual honors work.
